The photo memories you’ll make of your visit to Georgia will include visions of an Old South that has truly “gone with the wind” and a New South that is vibrant, growing and moving forward.
No other city in the South represents that attitude as much as Atlanta. Your photographs will show a cosmopolitan, youthful people that fully enjoy all the city’s culture, entertainment and family-friendly fun…and they’ll invite you to enjoy them too! Despite a reputation for great nightlife on Peachtree Street and in the Buckhead district and The Underground at Five Points, Atlanta also proudly honors its role during the Civil War as well as being the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. These are two great moments in history to be preserved in your pictures of Georgia.
Your photographs of Savannah will reveal a city that has wonderfully restored and revitalized much of the architecture and cityscapes that represent the best of Old Southern charm. Historic Savannah is filled with great subjects for your camera: squares and parks with statues and fountains; classic antebellum and Victorian-era homes; museums and forts; and the Riverfront Plaza. Expand your picture gallery of the Savannah area by visiting the nearby barrier islands: Tybee, Sea Island, St. Simons and others. Wake early to photograph an Atlantic sunrise. Later, capture images of your children playing on the beach and exploring the Tybee Lighthouse.
Photographing the cities of Georgia is only half of the story. Escape the excitement of the cities for a different kind of adventure in the natural wonderland that is Georgia. You can choose to head northeast to the mountains of Georgia where scenic drives provide amazing panoramic views of the magnificent fall colors. Immerse yourself in those incredible settings on hiking and biking trails and wild-river boating. All are perfect backdrops for great pictures of your family and friends. You’ll also experience the music, celebrations and art of the Appalachian culture that deserve a prominent place in your Georgia photo gallery.
Southwest Georgia presents completely different photographic opportunities. Here, is the Deep South, rural in character and often called the Plantation Trace region of Georgia. You’ll want to point-and-shoot the classic plantations; small-town museums, tours and quaint shops; and the many nature centers and wild animal parks.
Then, you and your camera (bring the family too!) can travel a few hours east to one of the great marvels of nature anywhere in the United States: the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Take the comfortable guided boat or railroad tour to photograph this wonderland of wildlife and the park’s many unique habitats: swamps, forests and open country. If you’re more adventurous, then pack a lunch and the recommended gear and rent a canoe to make a photographic day of it. You’ll paddle the headwaters of the Suwannee River as they flow from the half-million acres of the Okefenokee as you photograph nature in all its glory.
